Tapestry...a new ministry of MBC

Have you ever stopped to consider that your life is basically a thread? No, I don’t mean that you’re hanging on by a  thread, although at times, that may be true. And I don’t mean that you’re starting to unravel, although that TOO may be true. Let me explain what I’m getting at. If I said we were all just a part of God’s divine tapestry, would you understand what I mean? I searched for a clear definition of that word...TAPESTRY, and below is what I came up with:

     1. (noun) a heavy, ornamental fabric, often in the form of a picture, and made by weaving colored threads into a fixed loom.

     2. A colorful or complicated situation.

I like that, don’t you? To think that the divine Creator is not only taking the threads of my life and creating a work of art for His glory, but that He takes my thread and your thread and other believers threads and is weaving them together to design His ultimate masterpiece!  As far as the colorful and complicated situation goes, you are entering into some of the most wonderful, challenging, colorful AND complicated years of your lives. Trust me, you will need to rely heavily on the Creator as He fashions the tapestry of your life in the next several years. But you will need something else, too. You will need a community of people who are at the same point in their journey as you are in yours. In light of this, I’m excited to announce to you the newest ministry at MBC…

Tapestry...where our common thread is the passionate pursuit of Christ.

This ministry is being developed with you in mind; the young adult, ages 18-25 who is pursuing their education or are already on the job. It is more than just Sunday school, although that will be our starting point. Tapestry will consist of several different “threads”, if you will. Here’s what it will look like:

Bible Study-This includes the traditional Sunday School hour, but also will branch out into more in-depth study sessions, co-ed at first, but as our numbers grow, will eventually be split into a Guys Group and a Gals Group.

Worship-We will participate in the corporate worship of MBC, but we will have opportunities when it will just be us. The ultimate goal is to have our own Praise Team/Praise Band that will lead us as the opportunity arises.

Missions/Outreach/Service-This is not as spread out and complicated as it may sound. These all stem from the same thing and that’s sharing Christ. At times, it will be reaching out to other students in our church/school/community that should be involved in Tapestry.  At other times, it will mean doing service projects for those in need (helping widows, children, and shut-ins). There will also be mission opportunities from local projects to mission trips designed just for college students.

Prayer-If there’s one thing you’re going to need in the next few years, it’s PRAYER! Whether it’s an upcoming test, a relationship issue, or just physical strength to do everything you have to do, it’s nice to know there’s someone who will pray with you or for you at a moment’s notice. Tapestry  will help facilitate this for you.

Fellowship-We all need some time to unwind. This will provide you the chance. From card party’s and movie nights, to midnight bowling and weekend retreats, there will be plenty of opportunities to just “crash”. We will take into account your busy lives, hectic schedules, & your limited funds and attempt to be flexible in the scheduling of events.

As you can see, we’ve got a lot of exciting plans for this new ministry. Now all we need is...YOU!
